Buddhism teaches MINDFULNESS and AWARENESS to get rid of - 1. cravings, 2. angers, 3. ignorance, 4. being proud too much of, 5. self-oriented and misunderstanding, 6. having doubts about the truths, 7. laziness and hindering, 8. not being afraid of doing misdeeds, 9. not being shameful of doing misdeeds, 10. wandering & jealousies, 11. worries and sorrows.
Anyone who does not follow Buddha's teaching can not understand the items No.5 and No.6 only. But, anyone from any religion would accept the rest in the list. It is the No.5 and No.6, WHICH MAKES THE DIFFENENCES between the Buddhism and other religions including the free thinkers.
II. 2nd Post as a comment
I was thinking that the items no.5 and 6 is also a problem for most Buddhists. Most Buddhists literally may accept or know it but practically it can only be understood and accepted after seeing the insight meditation (at this era).
I'd like to refer to my old post regarding the above @http://tinyurl.com/cpzhljw -
"U Nu (who was a prime minister of Myanmar, in those good old days) said (to an American in an interview) - one may believe in any religion... Buddhism, Islam, or Christianity, or any other isms, but if you ask that one "whether he believes his own religion completely ? ".. and, if he's an honest man ... he will tell or admit that sometime he has DOUBTs about the religion he professed. A Buddhist will tell you the same thing. But when he, the Buddhist, reaches the first stage his DOUBTs is completely eliminated...."
This first stage is actually understanding items no.5 and 6 conceptually and practically by insight meditation.
III. 3rd Post as a comment
The first stage mentioned in the above can be obtained by practicing in the 8 Folds Path Way and understanding the 4 Noble Truths. I 'd like to refer to my previous post @http://tinyurl.com/6ovmn6x how the items no.5 and 6 can be got rid of.....
In practical meditation with the Eight Fold Path practice, the Four Noble Truths would be in the following order -
- 4th Noble Truth - Megga Sacca
- 1st Noble Truth - Dukka Sacca
- 2nd Noble Truth - Samudaya Sacca
- 3rd Noble Truth - Niroda Sacca
1. Megga Sacca
By insight meditation practices in the Eight Folds Path Way, after developing "sammah samadhi", the "yogi" would find out the arisings and dissolutions of the five aggregates well. (Item No. 6, the TRUTHs found out)
2. Dukka Sacca
In the course of the insight meditation practices, the "yogi" comes to know (by vipassana wisdom) "the wrong view - dahti" seeing that there is no "I" or "my" or "my possessions" in the sufferings or in the concepts of the arisings and dissolutions of the five aggregates. (Item No. 5 found out)
3. Samudaya Sacca
Continuouly in the insight meditation practices, the "yogi" gets rid of "the wrong view - dahti" while observing the arisings and dissolutions, realizing the "wrong view-dahti" well. (Item No. 5 is cleared up)
4. Niroda Sacca (Nivarna)
Finally in the insight meditation practices, the "yogi" escapes from the remaining arisings and dissolutions. The status of the yogi is totally changed, and it is the beginning of his/her life as an arahat (saint). (Item No. 6 is cleared up)
(Note: I have compiled and re-edited the post and following comments on my FB notes)
